Dear Eastern Connecticut Area Labor Federation,

My name is Abbey Skalka and I am contacting you from End Hunger Connecticut! to make you aware of an event taking place at 16 Armistice Street in New Britain on June 21 called a Blitz Day.  A Blitz Day is an event designed to increase awareness of and participation in free summer meals programs for children and teens 18 and younger.  These programs exist across the state of Connecticut, but unfortunately, only 25% of students who receive free or reduced-price lunches during the school year participate in summer meals.  Blitzes seek to change that statistic by dispatching volunteers to canvass the community distributing materials and spreading the word about summer meals.  The New Britain Blitz Day, which goes from 2PM to 5PM, is put on in partnership with the United Way of Danbury as a part of their Day of Action and will be followed by a block party from 5PM to 7PM.

We are contacting you because we need volunteers to join us for this event and hoped that you would be willing to share this opportunity with your group.  Furthermore, we wanted to share information about summer meals with you in case anyone in your community could benefit from them.

Further information about summer meals, including the addresses of meal sites, is available at ctsummermeals.org.

To volunteer at a Blitz Day, please register at this link:https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6NMFPZY

If you are unable to attend your town’s Blitz Day, please consider signing up to receive a Facebook or Twitter script to spread the word virtually on your Blitz Day: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NFMCS59

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at childnutrition@endhungerct.org .

We hope to see you at Blitz Day! Abbey SkalkaNo Kid Hungry Youth Ambassador
